The Comedy Event of the Year is back – World’s Funniest Island Comedy Festival (essentially the Falls Festival of Comedy) returns on October 16 and 17 on Cockatoo Island in Sydney.
This laughter-packed, two-day event will feature more than 200 performers on 16 stages from the cream of Australian comedy talent as well as some international stars!

I was lucky enough to go last year and it was truly one of the most unique comedy events ever seen. Unlike traditional comedy festivals (where you fork out $20 a tick and the outcome is hit or miss), WFI plays like a music festival, where you can sample as much or as little of EVERY act as you like.
Once again, World’s Funniest Island will transform the former colonial prison and naval dockyard, utilising the unique buildings, tunnels and bomb shelters into the island of hilarity. International talent includes Police Academy legend Michael Winslow, the return of the hit show Allah Made Me Funny, five-time Emmy Award nominee Will Durst and six of the hottest young US up-and-comers.
Aussie headliners include The Umbilical Brothers, Wil Anderson, Beached Az Live, Julia Morris, Fiona O’Loughlin, Heath “Chopper” Franklin, Axis of Awesome, Tom Ballard, Tom Gleeson, Mikey Robbins, Claire Hooper and Christa Hughes in Beer Drinking Woman.
The event will pack in everything from top comics, sketch shows, comedy burlesque and cabaret to the best of campus comedy.
“This really is a chance to sample the best of the year in comedy. There’s new stuff from old friends, big favourites and amazing new talent from all over the world,” said World’s Funniest Island Creative Director, John Pinder.
“And there is art, booze, food, camping out and spectacular harbour views to contemplate if you need to calm down amidst all the mayhem”.
Comedy fans can attend for one day, two days and even camp for a night or two. John Montgomery, General Manager Events, Events NSW said: “We are thrilled to support World’s Funniest Island for the second year in a row”.
“There is no doubt the event is offering something very different with some of the best local and international comedians performing on one of our most fantastic harbour islands. “Events like World’s Funniest Island are what set Sydney apart as an events destination, it’s a major event that makes the most of Cockatoo Island and attracts both Sydneysiders and visitors. World’s Funniest Island is bound to become the preeminent comedy event in Australia,” he said.
Special ferries run day and night all weekend and are included in the ticket price.
