It has been announced that Brisbane’s Violent Soho have signed with I OH YOU records, which will immediately see the band release two new singles in Tinderbox and Neighbour Neighbour, both of which will appear on special 7-inch vinyl later this year as well as iTunes on 27 Auguest.

Here’s  a note from the laptop of Johann Ponniah (nice guy at I OH YOU)

One of the first times I heard the name Violent Soho was in the back of a hired tour van while tour managing Howl (now Hunting Grounds) on a tour with Yacht Club DJs & DZ Deathrays. I still remember Shane from DZ barking down my ear about all the awesome stuff Violent Soho were doing in NYC. Since that point the I OH YOU household have followed Violent Soho intently, always looking up to them and admiring the passion and dedication they showed for music.

Late last year one of my best friends Nick Yates (UNFD) started managing “Soho” which led to us all hanging out a little over the summer just past, one thing led to another as it always does and one day while drunk at Yellowbird (the greatest bar in the world) it was decided that Violent Soho should release some songs through I OH YOU.

Having released their debut LP titled “We Don’t Belong Here” back in 2008, Violent Soho received an overwhelmingly positive response from all around the world, so much so that Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) signed them to his record label Ecstatic Peace! and released the band’s self-titled sophomore record. This record featured the single “Jesus Stole My Girlfriend” which impressively peaked at #21 on the Billboard Alternative charts.

Off the back of this LP Violent Soho won the hearts of not only fans and critics but also some of their idols, resulting in the band being invited to tour the USA with acts such as Dinosaur Jr, The Bronx, Built to Spill, and Alice in Chains as well as a personal request to play the UK’s prestigious “All Tomorrow Parties” by the festival’s 2011 curator, Les Savy Fav.

Having returned to Australia earlier this year for dates with Arctic Monkeys, Violent Soho then decided to bunker down in Brisbane and begin writing demos for their third LP which is planned for a 2013 release. But wanting to share some new music with fans before the album is released, the band will drop two new singles which will be recorded by Lindsay Gravina at Melbourne’s Birdland Studio. Keep your eye out for the limited edition 7” featuring both tracks later this year.

The first of these singles is titled “Tinderbox” and will be released in late August before the band headline Big Sound 2012.

Once again, I can’t express how psyched I OH YOU is to welcome Violent Soho to our label roster and we look forward to being able to share their music (which rules) with you in the near future.

‘Tinderbox’ – Available on iTunes from 27 August 2012
