“Based on a true story”… it can make you cringe, conjuring up thoughts of a poorly-made, badly acted midday movie. Thank god Denzel Washington’s new film Unstoppable is ‘loosely’ based on true events, leaving the directors to spice up the films plot with more explosions and hopefully a sex scene or two.

Hey, it works for Underbelly!

Unstoppable once again teams up Denzel Washington with director Tony Scott, which will be their 5th time working together since 1995 (Crimson Tide, Deja Vu, Man On Fire, The Taking Of Pelham 1,2,3) and the second film in a row that’s set on a train… something tells me Scott and Washington never got that toy train-set as a child.

Unstoppable: Tony Scott & Denzel Washington

Unstoppable is based on an incident in Ohio back in 2001, where a train with no-one on board lost control and in order to stop it, another train had to catch up so a brave engineer could jump onboard and take control. This is where the ”loosely based” comes in…

In Unstoppable the runaway train is carrying combustible liquids and poisonous gas which could wipe out a city…DUN DUN DAAAH!! (that was supposed to represent over-the-top dramatic music)

Jumping aboard the thriller is ‘Captain Kirk’ Chris Pine as the newbie train driver and ‘Hottie McHot’ Rosario Dawson as a train dispatcher forced to deal with the situation.

Rosario Dawson: hot enough to stop a train?

Between you and me, if Hollywood’s looking to make a train disaster movie, look no further than Melbourne’s train network.

Check the trailer out here… fingers crossed it doesn’t end up being ‘Speed 3 ‘.

Watch Out For: Ethan Suplee aka ‘Randy’ from My Name Is Earl with what looks like to be a serious role.
