Paramount Pictures has finally announced that the feature film adaptation of John Marsden’s best selling novel Tomorrow : When The War Began [check out photos from the set here] will open in Australian cinemas on September 2, 2010 [ WATCH THE FIRST OFFICIAL TRAILER HERE ].

Seven days prior to… well, in 2001 anyway… when the war… began.

The cast has also been revealed with Caitlin Stasey (Neighbours) to play Ellie Linton, Rachel Hurd-Wood (Peter Pan, Dorian Gray, Perfume) as Corrie McKenzie, Lincoln Lewis (Home & Away) as Kevin Holmes, Phoebe Tonkin (H2O – Just Add Water) as Fiona Maxwell, Deniz Akdeniz (When the Bell Rings) as Homer Yannos, Ashleigh Cummings (Home & Away, Razzle Dazzle) as Robyn Mathers, Chris Pang (Home Song Stories, Real Stories) as Lee and Andy Ryan (The Jesters) as Chris Lang.

Stuart Beattie (screen writer of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl and Collateral) not only penned the screenplay but will also be making his directorial debut on the flick which is currently in post-production in Sydney.

“Shooting Tomorrow : When The War Began was by far the toughest experience of my career, but also the most enjoyable” said Beattie.

“To see the movie finally coming together in the edit suite now is nothing short of a dream come true. I’ll be forever grateful to John Marsden not only for creating this story but for trusting me to bring it to the screen” he continued.

Paramount Pictures revealed that a teaser trailer and poster are planned to be in cinemas for Easter 2010, with the regular trailer and posters scheduled for mid-year.

“We know that since the completion of shooting before Christmas there are a lot of people who have been waiting for news about the release of the film… The film makers are well into the post production process but it is important to take the time necessary to make the final film as good as it can possibly be. What we have seen so far is extremely exciting and we are sure that the many fans of these books will not be disappointed” said Mike Selwyn of Paramount.

That’s what they said about Yahoo Serious’ Mr Accident wasn’t it?

Andrew Mason (who has worked on The Matrix series, Dark City and horror flick Silent Hill) added “We’ve brought together the very best talents in front of and behind the cameras to ensure this production looks and feels like the huge movie the story deserves”.

Hear that Australia? Sounds like we might have a movie on our hands that ISN’T depressing… and could be good enough to warrant sequels. A WARRANTED Australian movie sequel… I hope Nick Giannopoulos is taking notes.
