It’s Thursday, which means a brand new batch of flicks are about to hit Australian screens and, as usual, you can’t for the life of you work out which one you want to see and why. Well, that’s not your job is it… it’s ours.
So to save you the hassle and pain of thinking, we have the WATCH OUT FOR | MOVIES “THIS WEEK IN CINEMAS…. WEEKLY ROUND UP” giving you a quick, easy guide as to what to race out to see – and what to avoid like a Laura Linney movie.
The big question is – what is good, what is crap, what will make you cry and what will (most importantly) allow you to get to second or (if you are lucky) third base with that guy or gal you’ve been crushing on all month long.
We know you don’t have time to trawl through the newspapers – so WATCH OUT FOR | MOVIES is happy to do all the leg work for you, giving you the Ins and Outs, the Hits and Misses of Movies hitting Australian screens for the week of January 14th 2010.

George Clooney is Up In The Air
BRAN NUE DAE
Starring : Missy Higgins & Geoffrey Rush. Director : Rachel Perkins
It’s the summer of 1969 and young Willie is filled with the life of the idyllic old pearling port Broome, in the North of Western Australia – fishing, hanging out with his mates, and when he can, his girl Rosie (Jessica Mauboy)…
Bran Nue Dae isn’t perfect, but at the end of the day, musicals are to some what Crank 2 : High Voltage is to others – pure, turn your brain off at the door, joyous and pleasurable escapism. [ Read The Full Review ].
WATCH OUT FOR | HIT PICK
UP IN THE AIR
Starring : George Clooney & Vera Farmiga. Director : Jason Reitman
From Jason Reitman, the Oscar-nominated director of Juno, comes Up In The Air, the timely odyssey of Ryan Beingham (George Clooney), a corporate downsizer and consumate modern business traveller who, after years of staying happily airborne, suddenly finds himself ready to make a real connection.
There has been some huge buzz surronding Up In The Air, for the most part it’s warranted (but when isn’t Clooney quality?), but it’s hardly the “Best Movie of 2010″ – not even close. [ Read The Full Review ]
TOOTH FAIRY
Starring : Dwayne Johnson & Ashley Judd. Director: Michael Lembeck.
Dwayne Johnson is The Tooth Fairy, also known as Derek Thompson, a hard-charging minor league hockey player whose nickname comes from his habit of separating opposing players from their bicuspids.
The cast is amazing; it really is a star studded affair. Where the screenplay lacks, the performances more than make up for it and while some lines fall flat, with the majority of the film delivering charm, comedy and family fun.[ Read The Full Review ]
THE TREASURE HUNTER
Starring : Aaron Kwok & Ekin Cheng. Director: Oxide & Danny Pang
From Kevin Chu, director of Chinese Odyssey comes a action packed martial-arts fantasy adventure which mixes The Storm Warriors with Tomb Raider & The Mummy!
