It’s Thursday, which means a brand new batch of flicks are about to hit Australian screens and, as usual, you can’t for the life of you work out which one you want to see and why. Well, that’s not your job is it… it’s ours.

So to save you the hassle and pain of thinking, we have the WATCH OUT FOR | MOVIES “THIS WEEK IN CINEMAS…. WEEKLY ROUND UP” giving you a quick, easy guide as to what to race out to see – and what to avoid like a Tom Arnold movie.

The big question is – what is good, what is crap, what will make you cry and what will (most importantly) allow you to get to second or (if you are lucky) third base with that guy or gal you’ve been crushing on all month long.

We know you don’t have time to trawl through the newspapers – so WATCH OUT FOR | MOVIES is happy to do all the leg work for you, giving you the Ins and Outs, the Hits and Misses of Movies hitting Australian screens for the week of January 21st 2010.

Toy Story 1 & 2 - Limited Time In 3D

3D – Toy Story & Toy Story 2

Starring : Tom Hanks & Tim Allen. Director : John Lasseter

The return of Disney Pixar’s TOY STORY and TOY STORY 2 to the big screen kicks off a Disney Digital 3D Toy Story celebration, which culminates in a brand new adventure starring Buzz and Woody: “Toy Story 3” – in theaters June 24, 2010.

A great opportunity to revisit a classic in a brand new way, it’s only out for a limited time (and two-movie-for-the-price-of-one ticketing) so get in early and make sure you experience this truly unique event while you can.

WATCH OUT FOR | HIT PICK
Nine

Starring : Daniel Day-Lewis & Penélope Cruz. Director : Rob Marshall

Nine is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world famous film director Guido Contini (Danial Day-Lewis) as he reaches a creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the numerous women in his life including his wife, his mistress, his film star muse, his confidant and costume designer, an American fashion journalist, the whore from his youth and his mother.

Very much the close Italian cousin of Marshall’s Chicago (using the musical sequences to represent what’s going on inside the character’s heads), Nine is a celebration of life, love, culture, females and fashion – a package which creates such a joyous sense of fun and class to a genre that is so often clouded by camp. Invictus

Starring : Morgan Freeman & Matt Damon. Director: Clint Eastwood

From director Clint Eastwood, Invictus tells the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) joined forces with the captain of South Africas rugby team, Francois Pienaar (Matt Damon), to help unite their country.

Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Believing he can bring his people together through the universal language of sport, Mandela rallies South Africas underdog rugby team as they make an unlikely run to the 1995 World Cup Championship match.

This isn’t Eastwood’s finest hour (there’s a song on the soundtrack about being “colourblind” that is one of the worst ever written), but tales of optimism and hope don’t have to be subtle.

In The Loop

Starring : James Gandolfini & Chris Addison. Director: Armando Iannucci

The US President and UK Prime Minister fancy a war. But not everyone agrees that war is a good thing…

While consistently entertaining, In The Loop does seem very much like a six part comedy series sewn together, therefore does occasionally feel a little chubby either side of the main plot.

That said, it features My Girl star Anna Chlumsky all-grown-up, so worth checking out if you get the chance. [ Read Our Full Review Here ]
