The Wild Party, a musical written by Andrew Lippa, is based on a narrative poem of the same name written by Joseph Moncure March in 1928.
For one more night only, this original adaptation transforms the Bella Union at Trades Hall into a New York club from the 1920s.
The Wild Party depicts a booze soaked party thrown by a pair of small-time vaudeville performers whose love affair is sputtering out. Queenie the dancer, and Burrs, a clown of some renown, invite their friends to an all night soirée that soon degenerates into a drunken orgy of brawling, fractious love-making, and even murder. With a pulsating, driving style The Wild Party describes a parade of bizarre characters and jarring incidents that evoke the end of the era of vaudeville.

The intimate setting of Bella Union provides the performance with enough realism to capture the audience’s attention. Whether it be through some confrontingly honest and ‘racey’ depictions, or comedic routines, The Wild Party succeeds in blurring the lines between the real world and a 1928 New York style orgy of vaudeville themed deviance. With some commanding performances from the small yet promising cast, as well as the incindiary musical accompaniment, The Wild Party both tantalises and shocks you with a world of stylish indulgence we have long departed.
