Run Away, the lead single on this three-track disc, has a sunny pop opening that quickly darkens into band’s sound. “My Saturday morning paper tells me I should run away” drawls singer Dan James over an oft-used but catchy drumbeat (the kind you might call “foot-stomping”) and weighty keys.

As my Word cursor sat blinking, waiting for me to type (something, anything!), I was at a loss to fill the page. Drawn From Bees are a Brisbane four-piece that play, as far as I can categorize, dark indie pop. The quartet have been called ‘art rock’ which, as well as the term being steeped in wank, is a far cry from what is crawling out of my stereo as we speak.
