For those of you lucky enough to be trekking on over to Sunset Sounds next year – January 6th and 7th at Brisbanes Botanic Gardens and River Stage – you will be well informed of what an absoulute treat you are in for. For those who don’t have tickets, you probably aren’t as knowledgable of the fact that Sunset Sounds 2010 is shaping up to be one of the best festivals this summer has to offer.

Although it’s cool to think about what bands are playing – a curious list that includes the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Grizzly Bear, Temper Trap, Seasick Steve, King Kahn & The Shrines, Datarock, Xavier Rudd and a whole bunch of others – there are also some things that one must familiarise themselves with in order to get the most out of the day. As such, here is some vitally important information that will go a long way to helping have a trule swell time.

The venue

Sunset Sounds will be held at the Botanical Gardens and the River Stage. The entry will be inside the Botanical Gardens – at the River Stage end.

Over 18’s only

This is an 18+ only. Proof of age will be requested as you enter. No ID – no entry. No-one under the age of 18 will be permitted entry.

Getting there: Bus, train or ferry

To get to River Stage, you can take the free inner-city Loop Bus. It leaves Adelaide and Edward Streets (stop 25) and stops at George and Alice Streets.

It is an 800 metre walk to the River Stage from Alice Street.

You can also catch a:

  • train to Central Station and then walk down to Alice Street and City Botanic Gardens

  • CityCat and get off at QUT Gardens Point terminal (a 965 metre walk to the River Stage)

Other ways to get to River Stage

  • walk along the RiverWalk

  • ride your bike

Parking:

There’s no parking at the gardens, but you can try your luck at the QUT car parks, or park at the Myer Centre – they’re giving discounts to Sunset Sounds patrons who are wearing their wrist straps. Check the website for more details.

Alcohol :

There will be bars on-site where you can purchase a range of alcoholic, mid strength and low strength drinks as well as a range of non-alcoholic drinks, including bottled water. The entire venue is licensed, so therefore you’re free to roam!

Food and water:

We have food and bevy places onsite, but you can bring your own food and water. NO BYO ALCOHOL. All bottles must be unopened. Security guards will be checking all bags and will confiscate any opened bottles.

Merchandise:

We will have a large range of merchandise available at the event. This will include men’s and ladies tees, ladies singlets, hats, caps and official event posters. There will also be band merchandise available.

Cloak Room:

There will be a cloak room near the entry – it will cost a few dollars to stash your gear.

Prohibited items

Please do not bring: chairs, eskies, picnic blankets, skateboards, studded fashion items, umbrellas, laser pointing devices, large flashlights and torches, fireworks of any type, full, empty or opened plastic beverage bottles, cans and containers, any weapons or items considered harmful to others.
