Hollywood must be buzzing at the moment – Avatar going great guns, the Tonight Show war is raging on, and the Spider-Man reboot scandal continues to divide fanboys across the globe. It’s a fine time to be a lawyer in LA, I tell you that much!
Back in the world of “cash cow franchises”, it seems two of the biggest are heading back to the big screen – and quite a lot quicker than most would have expected – with both Transformers 3 and Sherlock Holmes 2 expected to get filming underway before the end of the year.

Sherlock Holmes : Quality Reimagining
According to the EW.com, Robert Downey Jr. has dropped out of Cowboys & Aliens (the project which would have seen him re-team with Iron Man director Jon Favreau) now that “the star has a scheduling conflict with a Sherlock Holmes sequel”.
Despite the fact that a sequel to Guy Ritchie’s flick has yet to have been given the greenlight, Warner Bros. are apparently chomping at the bit to fast-track Sherlock Holmes 2 with it’s Box Office cume currently sitting at $130M in the USA and $296M worldwide.
Warner Bros. have “commissioned a script by Kieran and Michele Mulroney” and are “locking down the cast for a June start date, exactly the time when Cowboys & Aliens is set to begin principal photography”.
Personally, I don’t think it’ll be too big of a deal – another RDJ franchise could be a little bit of overkill, so hopefully the new Cowboys & Aliens lead will launch the career of someone new.
Meanwhile, Shia LaBeouf has let slip to Deadline that (along with ditching the agent that secured roles in Disturbia, Indiana Jones and Transformers) that “He’ll likely start work in May on Transformers 3“.
That seems a little too soon if you ask me, but then again, considering how much CGI work will go into the flick (expected to be set on Cybertron) it could still be another two to three years before it hits cinemas anyway.
Until then, check out the new Transformers game trailer which will likely be similar to the Wolverine game – with the story acting as a bridge between Transformers : Revenge Of The Fallen and Transformers 3…
