Parks and Recreation – Season 1 (Amy Poehler, Aziz Ansari) : DVD Review

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it – it’s a rule which has been liberally applied to Greg Daniel’s critically praised spin-off to the American adaptation of Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant’s The Office.
Set within the local government offices of the fictional town of Pawnee, Parks & Recreation see’s Saturday Night Live’s Amy Pohler take on the mandatory role of “delusional boss with unrealistic dreams”, this time leading a team of uninterested co-workers on a fruitless mission to turn an abandoned construction pit into a thriving local park.
Despite lacking the belly laughs delivered by it’s Steve Carrell led sister-series, Parks & Recreation is refreshingly rich in character detail and thrives thanks largely to stand-out performances from the likes of Aziz Ansari [Read Our Exclusive Interview With Aziz Ansari Here], Nick Offerman and the mesmerisingly beautiful Rashida Jones.
The American version of The Office took almost three seasons to find it’s feet and earn the right to be considered one of the stand out comedies of the decade, however judging by this promising start, Parks & Recreation could very well claim that title in just under eight episodes.
Watch this space comedy nerds, big laughs are on the horizon.
