In what has been a year of significant change with regards to fire safety, the general public are now more than ever aware of the brutal reality surrounding Australia’s unforgiving bushfire season. However, in a measure to allay any fears that patrons may have, Australia’s leading fire scientist has given the ‘green light’ to Australia’s ‘greenest’ festival: The Falls Festival.
Dr Kevin Tolhurst confirmed that “the environment around the Falls Festival site is highly unlikely to be dry enough by the time of this year’s event to enable a bushfire”.
Dr Tolhurst’s conclusions were backed by the CFA Operations Manager of the region, Gerry Verdoorn, who said the “findings confirm what we have always known about the low and manageable fire risk associated with the festival.”
That’s not to say however that fire safety was not a pertinent issue of organization, as Mr Verdoorn went on to highlight the tremendous safety history of the festival, saying it was also due to the the “extensive work put into place by the event team, CFA and other agencies. Patrons should feel safe knowing that the strict approvals required are easily met by the festival organizers.”
Festival organizer Simon Daly said “in the 16 year history of the event, the environment surrounding the site has never been dry during the event.”
Headlining this years incredible line-up are New York rockers the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, the well-seasoned Moby, first-time-in-Australia Grizzly Bear and Melbourne’s very own Temper Trap. Tickets for the Falls Festival are always a sought after commodity. So, if you’re not already going this year, better luck next year!
