Adapted from one of the most popular children’s books of all time (written by Maurice Sendak), Where The Wild Things Are is now one of the most anticipated book-to-movie releases in recent years.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Written and directed by Spike Jonze ( celebrated director of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Weezer’s Buddy Holly film-clip), Where The Wild Things Are follows the story of a highly imaginative young boy named Max Records, who as a result of feeling neglected by his mother, runs away in his trademark wolf costume and enters a distant land where he meets the Wild Things.
Striking up a friendship with Carol (head of the group – voiced by James Gandolfini) and the rest of the Wild Things, Max eventually comes to learn from their destructive behaviours (throwing tantrums, etc) and the effect they have one the Wild Thing community. Max returns home to his concerned mother. All is good and ends well.

James Gandolfini in a slightly different role to Tony Soprano.
WATCH OUT FOR
As if it wasn’t cool enough with Spike Jonze directing a knock-out cast of voice overs (including James Gandolfini, Forest Whitaker, Chris Cooper and Catherine O’Hara), there is also the ultra-cool detail with the combined use of performers in costumes, animatronics and CGI that truly work well with the imagination-based domains of the book.
Added to this is the insanely listenable soundtrack, almost all of which was written and performed by Yeah Yeah Yeahs lead singer Karen O (who incidentally, is Jonzes ex-girlfriend). Performing as Karen O and The Kids, soundtracks like make a great movie even better!
Where The Wild Things Are will be open in Australia on the 4th of December.
THE TRAILER

Do you think Spikes first rejected cut of the film will be ever released?
