In the latest comedy from Broken Lizard, (the creators of Supertroopers and Beerfest) “Slammin” Cleon Salmon (Michael Clarke Duncan) is a former Heavyweight Champion of the World turned celebrity owner of a high end Miami seafood restaurant, The Slammin’
Salmon.
A terrifying bull of a man, Salmon uses fear to rule over his misfit waitstaff (Broken Lizard’s Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, Erik Stolhanske, as well as Cobie Smulders and April Bowlby) and on this particular night, he takes his bullying skills to a new level. In an effort to pay off a gambling debt to the Japanese Yakuza, Salmon sets up a contest to ‘inspire’ his waitstaff to sell more food than they ever have before: the top selling server wins $10,000 while the waiter in last place gets served with a broken rib sandwich—

Spurred on by greed and panic, the staff resort to backstabbing, bribery and indecent proposals in an attempt to upsell their patrons while simultaneously sabotaging their co-workers. As the hours pass, the dining room action becomes more frenzied as the contest escalates into a brawl for first place in order to win the money.

WHAT’S THE BUZZ
I remember quite vividly going to my local cinema as a lowly Year 9 to see Super Troopers. Much like it was when me and my brother sat down to watch The Ladies Man on the silver screen… the place was as emptier than a whore house full of Laura Linney look-alikes.
But I loved it – and history and DVD sales have proved that I was on the right track, with Broken Lizard’s Super Troopers one of the most loved cult comedies of the 2000s. So it’s pretty exciting for a comedy nerd like myself to see that they are back doing what they do best… messing the place up.
WATCH OUT FOR
Along with the inclusion of the slammin’ hotty that plays Robin in How I Met Your Mother – I simply don’t think I can ignore the line about a quarter way into the trailer… “How are we Fe-Line tonight?”.
Probably my new favourite movie… I’m just gonna put that out there… and will retract it if it doesn’t live up to expectations.
