Brisbane indie-pop quartet Montpelier are releasing their next single Last Boat this November. In celebration, they are headlining The Zoo on Saturday November 13th, before taking off down the East Coast on tour.
Things have been moving fast for Montpelier in 2010. Amongst a hectic touring schedule surrounding their debut EP that was released earlier this year, including support shows with Scotland’s Biffy Clyro and Frightened Rabbit, Montpelier had a wouldn’t-take-no-for-an-answer opportunity to spend time at Space Junk Studios in Sydney with Aria nominated producer Tim Powles (Regular John, The Church).

This collaboration has seen Montpelier take their sound to a new level. “Working with Tim has been a long-term project which has allowed for a lot of experimentation with sounds and the arrangement of songs. Last Boat was the first track that we worked on together. Having this kind of relationship with a producer really helps sculpt the sound of the band. For me personally, it has pushed me to reach a really interesting place with the sorts of guitar sounds that are now on the record,” says vocalist and guitarist Dave Butler.
Greg Chiapello’s powerful and haunting vocal is layered with fellow front man, Dave Butler’s harmonies. John Pickering’s “Temper Trap-esque” (Bridie Connelian, The Brag) drum beats are combined with a delayed guitar sound and atmospheric synths and keys have been artistically intertwined, taking Last Boat to a new level.
Last Boat will be available as a free download through Montpelier’s website on November 12.
