Jackass – The Lost Tapes : DVD Review

Just when you thought you’d seen enough of people vomiting and crapping their pants in public… they find another way to inflict more Jackass on the world. Fill in the gaps of the Jackass TV collection with the Jackass : The Lost Tapes which features almost 80 minutes of classic Jackass TV segments that were never released on DVD, including the one that started it all: “Johnny Knoxville’s Self-Defence Test”.

The question is, how does this compare to the upcoming Jackass 3D set to hit cinemas in 2010?

Jackass : The Lost Tapes

WHAT’S THE BUZZ
I think we can all safely say that Jackass has had some influence on us all – even if you aren’t actually aware of it. Ever heard of YouTube? Well, that is essentially an idea which was born from the “Do It Yourself” style of the Jackass (and prior to that, CKY, boys).

There is also about 30 minutes of never-aired content pulled from the Jackass vaults as well including every “Hi, I’m Johnny Knoxville” show opener ever, all of the end credit montages, plus a bunch of outtakes and segments ripped from the online domain of jackassworld.com

Look, I’m not going to pretend that this stuff doesn’t amuse me… because it does. We’ve all done stupid things, and a lot of the time, we WISH we could be as stupid as Steve-O and Bam. But we are not… yet they are still willing to live out our secret little dreams of being totally fearless, which has to be commended. Jackass : The Lost Tapes is also a lot stronger and raw than the WOEFUL Jackass : The Movie 2.5, which was possibly the least satisfying cash in I’ve ever had to sit through in my life.

The contents of this DVD are back when the boys had nothing to lose (some of it, I’m certain) was filmed long before MTV ever came knocking at their door with bags of cash. So it’s fun to watch, because you know these guys are literally just doing it for their own amusement.

A word of warning however, try not to watch this on the train or in a public place like I did. There is no way of trying to justify, to anyone around you, watching a grown man in leopard skin budgie smugglers taking a wet poo off the top of a ladder while an old lady sits on the chair next to you with her mouth agape in shock. Let’s see you try and clean THAT UP Metro Trains!

WATCH OUT FOR
The “Vomlit”… you’ll never watch a cooking show the same way again!
