It’s been a long time coming, but thanks to The Hangover Zach Galifianakis has finally broken through into the mainstream. While for most comedians, this would mean rehashing the same variatons of the one character for several movies while the cash roles (we’re lookin’ at you Adam Sandler, Will Ferell and Ben Stiller!) Galifianakis, true to form, is doing things his own way.
In It’s Kind of a Funny Story, we follow a clinically depressed teenager who gets a new start after he checks himself into an adult psychiatric ward. Galifianakis, of course, plays the kooky-but-wise mentor.

It’s Kind Of A Funny Story is based on the young-adult novel by Ned Vizzini, and while not totally devoid of mainstream charm (think of it as an Up In The Air type adventure), it doesn’t exactly scream “Sure Fire Blockbuster” like the films of those aforementioned stars films do.
However, what we do get is something a lot more special, exciting and deep. It’s an unusual discovery in Hollywood – but good lordy mcgordy, I’m glad Galifianakis has used his Hollywood clout to get something like this made rather than simply doing “Alan’s Wolfpack : The Movie” (as awesome as that would actually be).
Look, if you’re a Garden State or Away We Go freak (which I most certainly am), then this will be the flick you’re waiting for in 2010.
WATCH OUT FOR
Emma Roberts giving us a little more than the “Tween Queen” Miley Cyrus act… could she really be “something”?
