While there have been some pretty strong whispers lately (in fact, they were essentially yelling through a megaphone) that Hey Hey It’s Saturday was set for a return to the box after almost 10 years, host and producer Daryl Somers has officially released a statement today confirming that 2010 is the year Australian TV will be travelling back in time.

Rove to Daryl : Fair Trade?
In a brief message issued to the 390,000+ members of the official FaceBook page that sparked the Hey Hey It’s Saturday : The Reunion specials earlier this year (which drew in huge audiences, along with dividing the nation thanks to the “Jackson Jive”) Daryl Somers said :
Just an update on Hey Hey for 2010.
Subject to the completion of negotiations with Nine (all looking good at the moment) Hey Hey will be back on a regular basis with as much fun as we can muster!
This news is about to be announced to the industry by David Gyngell but I’m very pleased to let you know first. Obviously this has come about from the enormous success of the Hey Hey Reunion Specials.
I’ll update you accordingly.
Cheers,
Daryl.
It’s a huge turn around for a show which was quite frankly dead and buried – and will become a truly odd changing of the TV guard… again… with Daryl Somers essentially taking the place of Rove McManus as the main face of variety / comedy in Australia. Seriously – did anybody ever expect to see that sentence in print? Sure, Good News Week returned almost ten years after being axed… but… well… who really ever watches Good News Week anyway?
In what form… along with the why’s and how’s of… Hey Hey It’s Saturday will return, we will know in a short matter of time… but for now… lets look back at the nostalgic memories that brought a puppet out of retirement!

I watch good news week….its awesome….i watch it as regularly as i would hey hey if it came back
I’m a loyal GNW viewer (and sometimes audience member) and i’m thrilled to see some of Australia’s best programs being given another chance to shine. The return of shows like GNW and Hey Hey proves that lightning CAN strike twice in the same place!
Hey Kirri.
We totally agree – GNW is a great show (and was the inspiration behind some of TV’s most popular shows like “Spicks & Specks”), we just meant that it’s Exit / Years Later Return was met with nowwhere near as much fanfare as the aforementioned Rove or Hey Hey.
