The long gestating Gilligan’s Island movie has finally taken one step closer to realisation (for several years, Adam Sandler and Chris Farley were mooted to take on the roles of Gilligan and The Skipper respectively) after Warner Bros. and Atlas Entertainment confirmed they had begun development on a feature film based on the iconic CBS sitcom.
Charles Roven and Richard Suckle are onboard to produce for Atlas, with Brad Copeland (who is currently writing the remakes of Flight Of The Navigator and Yogi Bear) penning the screenplay, Variety reports, with the “original show producer Sherwood Schwartz is aboard to executive produce” along with son Lloyd Schwartz.

Will Michael Cera play Gilligan?
“The characters are so good,” Roven said, “We think it’s going to be a great story to transport these cultural icons to the modern day”.
The new flick with be a contemporary take on the classic characters, with production to start “as early as next year”.
No casting details have been confirmed yet, however Sherwood Schwartz has made no secret of the fact that at the top of his list to play Gilligan is Arressted Development’s Michael Cera.
More news on this as is comes to hand, until then, let’s enjoy some classic moments from that three hour tour… a three hour tour.
