Flight Of The Conchord Muppets : Movie News

The long awaited return of Kermit The Frog and his merry band of Muppets for a new generation just got a little bit cooler – with How I Met Your Mother’s Jason Segel writing and Flight Of The Conchords director James Bobin to direct!

Seriously, can you even comprehend a better comedy combo (unless of course Bill Murray did EVERYTHING?).

According to THR, the man behind the visuals of the cult New Zealand comedy’s name emerged as “the lead choice after Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller… abruptly did a detour, inking a deal to helm Jonah Hill’s 21 Jump Street at Sony instead”.

New York Magazine also revealed that Bobin faced quite a career-make-or-breaking-choice with the project after it became known that Bobin could only take on the role of “directing Muppets or the Judd Apatow comedy titled Bridesmaids at Universal”.

It seems Bobin has jumped off the Apatow train (which, admittedly, has been losing steam of late thanks to a flooding of the market with films associated with his name) and “made the decision to throw his lot with Kermit and Miss Piggy late Thursday night”.

As previously reported, Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller have penned the new Muppet project (Segel is well known for being a “Muppet freak”). Plot details are being kept secret for the time being, but Bobin is “expected to bring a musical sensibility to the project, which is being produced by Mandeville’s David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman”.

Considering the last few Muppet movies were complete duds, the news of such an awesome creative team is nothing but positive and could very well make Jim Henson and The Muppets cool again!
