Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Honda Superbowl Commercial (Matthew Broderick) : Viral Video

I’m not exactly sure when Matthew Broderick morphed from “Iconic Teenage Rascal” into “Robotic Nerd With Fake Teeth” (science would suggest around the time of Inspector Gadget), but it’s safe to say that Broderick hasn’t really lived up to his Ferris Bueller status for quite a few years now.

Sure, he dominated in The Producers – but let’s face facts… the guy lost his cool. Until now, that is!

Much like the recent Nike Back To The Future campaign, plenty of Hollywood stars of yesteryear are going back to the well. However, instead of going large and tainting the memories with a sub par sequel – they are accepting bags of cash (I’m assuming ones which have giant green dollar signs painted on them like in Hanna Barberra cartoons) to reprise classic roles for TV commercials.

To celebrate the launch of the new 2012 CR-V, Honda have brought Ferris Bueller’s Day Off back for the Superbowl. Here is the initial teaser which did the rounds last week (clocking up over 4.5 Million views in just 5 days!).

The full length “Ferris Bueller Returns” sees Matthew Broderick as himself, skipping out on a day of acting work and living it up in his fairly lameballs cars. Sure, it cements Broderick’s daggy nature – but with The Hangover‘s Todd Phillips behind the camera you can rest assured that this is a pretty fun and fresh twist to the ’80s classic.

There are over two dozen references to the movie throughout the commercial. Some are obvious, some subtle – the questions is : How many you can find?
