With James Cameron’s Avatar taking in yet another $75 Million plus haul in it’s second week of release in the USA (taking it’s US Box Office cume to $212.2 Million, Australian Box Office to well over $20 Million, and a Worldwide take of over $433.3 Million), it was only a matter of minutes before “Sequel” talk moved into over-time.
Avatar 2 : New Moon
While James Cameron has traditionally been pretty tight lipped when it comes to sequel projects, according to an interview with the LA Times, Avatar 2 is locked and loaded.
Events of the next Avatar movie will “Branch out into other moons of the Polyphemus and the Alpha Centauri A solar system” said Cameron. There are “Over fifty” in total – meaning we could very well be in for a rather long winded (multi-film) Star Wars-eque saga of the likes we’ve never seen before.
However, there have also been talks of investigating Pandora further with Avatar producer Jon Landau telling SlashFilm “Here [with Avatar] we are exploring the surface of the planet Pandora. The interior remains to be seen.”
With at least three more solid weeks of Box Office receipts to come, Avatar is well within reaching distance of crossing the coveted $1 Billion mark… meaning we could be exploring Pandora within the two years.
