Nath Valvo : Annoyed

Nath Valvo has come a long, long way, baby; from being “the fat one” in Melbourne comedy trio The Shambles to being…”the gay one” in The Shambles.

Laura Davis : The Dog In The Ink

You end up leaving the show having not only learned a little something about your subconscious and Freudian theory via an hour of hilarity, but you walk out of there feeling warm, contented, practically hugged.

Zack Adams

If “a cross between a rock concert and group therapy” doesn’t sound like a rad night out, I don’t think we can be friends. Perth comic Zack Adams (nee Shane Adamczak) is bringing his show, Love Songs for Future Girl, to the 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival in a flurry of bespectacled charm, ginger quirkiness and musical funnies.

Michael Williams - Our Princess Is In Another Castle

Michael Williams will be bringing his uber-nerd show Our Princess is in Another Castle to the 2011 Melbourne International Comedy Festival; The Age called him “A warped mix of Joss Whedon, Trey Parker and Nickelodeon.”, but you can call him Michael.

Shane Matheson : MICF Interview

Shane Matheson

Like Salvador Dali, Max Ernst and André Breton before him, Sydney comic Shane Matheson is what I could call a surrealist; though, instead of dripping clocks and hellish orgies, Shane delivers his surrealism in his stand-up comedy.

Singin in the Rain (Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds) : Cinema Classic

Singin

Where other films may fall or fail to reach their respective marks, Singin’ in the Rain shines and dazzles like nobody’s business. I confess, you may- will- find this review a tad biased; I will be waxing very complimentary, possibly near sycophantic, you may think- if you’re a jerk like that- on the film because it truly is my favourite of all-time. And here’s why.

Jackass 3D – Official Soundtrack : Album Reviews

jackass 3d - soundtrack

As the Jackass 3D juggernaut has been and gone, along with the accompanying soundtrack (which I’ll get around to discussing), I remain in two minds about the Jackass Empire. On the one hand, it’s fairly immature, profane, low-brow and often disgusting. On the other hand (you have different fingers, nyuk nyuk nyuk), the Jackass lads can be genuinely amusing (more so in their casual banter as opposed to high-octane stunts), creative and wryly clever, in a frat-boy sort of way.

Alanis Morissette

Anyway, here is a run-down of the best Alanis tracks to, perhaps, get you started on your Morissette way if you have not yet had the pleasure or if, like me, you just really like making mixed CDs.

simian mobile disco - delicacies

I wouldn’t call myself a Simian Mobile Disco aficionado, but after loving Audacity of Huge to death (though, later realizing it was probably Chris Keating of Yeasayer’s influence that thrilled me so), I was optimistic prior to hitting play and letting SMD’s new album Delicacies wow me.
